Four weeks describes a change to the family’s target departure, not an extra processing period or an instruction to move every date.

What is the standard decision estimate?
GOV.UK partner guidance checked on 11 October 2026 gives a usual decision time of 12 weeks for applications outside the UK. This is not the timetable for every dependant route. Further checks or requests for evidence can lengthen an individual case. Partner and spouse guidance.
When does the processing period start?
Follow the identity-verification instructions for the application: biometrics at an appointment or the relevant digital identity process. Preparation before submission and waiting for an appointment are separate from the UKVI processing stage. Keep those periods visible in your household timetable. UKVI explains when processing starts.
What should happen before choosing a travel date?
- Confirm the route for the partner and each child.
- Check financial evidence periods and any returning sponsor’s UK job start date.
- Resolve relationship, parental responsibility and accommodation gaps.
- Arrange applicable English evidence and other required checks.
- Complete the application and identity stage, then allow for the decision and any further requests.
How do we coordinate a joint move?
Work backwards from the British sponsor’s intended return and any UK employment start date, but keep the visa decision as an unresolved dependency. For a household with children, also allow for school, care and document arrangements. Do not assume all family applications will be decided on the same day.
Should we pay for priority processing?
Confirm that the relevant service is available for the application before building it into the plan. A faster service changes the processing target, rather than the eligibility rules or evidence needed. It cannot guarantee approval or a particular family travel date.
What if we already have a deadline or refusal?
Give Move Up the actual expiry date or decision notice and the dates of any intended travel. Keep an extension deadline separate from a first entry-clearance timetable. A previous refusal needs review of the reasons before another application is scheduled. Read the review and appeal guide.
What happens once the decision arrives?
Read the decision and access instructions carefully; check each applicant’s names, permission dates and conditions. Confirm the current travel-document and immigration-status arrangements before booking around them. Keep the decision records for later extensions. After a family visa application.
