Nationality through a grandparent

A British grandparent may be the beginning of an enquiry.

A connection through a grandparent can make nationality worth investigating. It does not establish a universal right to a British passport.

Why look at the parent generation too?

Nationality transmission depends on the relevant law and the circumstances of the family line. Where each generation was born and how status was acquired can change the result.

Is this the same as an Ancestry visa?

No. An Ancestry visa is a form of immigration permission with its own requirements. A nationality enquiry asks about citizenship or a route to acquiring it. The same family story may raise both questions without producing the same answer.
