Historical nationality
A birth in a former British territory can be relevant to a nationality enquiry. The territory's history, the date and the family's circumstances matter; the place name alone is not an answer.
Nationality arrangements changed over time, including around independence. A status held by an earlier generation does not necessarily establish present British citizenship for every descendant.
An historical nationality status, current British citizenship and a possible registration route are different findings. A passport enquiry should follow that distinction rather than assume that every colonial connection produces the same right.
