Some child citizenship applications are considered under discretionary provisions. This means the particular circumstances matter and the outcome is not an automatic entitlement.
A relevant authority considers the application within the applicable law and policy. A sympathetic family story or another child's successful case does not by itself determine the outcome.
The child's age, family circumstances, residence and future can be relevant to the review. A potential discretionary route should be distinguished from a route where the child already has citizenship or meets a specific registration entitlement.
